QUOTE OF THE DAY (OR MORE): "No, no. You don't understand. This is an '89 Calico. I'm pretty sure that exceeds the Kelly Blue Book value. The cat's totaled." --A comedian whose name I forget talking about a vet who presents a $3,000 bill for a 12-year-old cat

Chocolate poll here...

Today we're here to talk about my friend... and likely yours... chocolate.

Normal people like chocolate; the best kind of people love chocolate. As my grandmother wisely says, it's hard to trust people who don't like chocolate. My wonderful new sister-in-law is an exception; she doesn't like chocolate (and yes, that's really weird), but she's still the best kind of person. It's her one flaw. I think it's because she does, after all, like chocolate combined with other things (strawberries, for example...certainly nothing wrong with that), so maybe the rule (that only abnormal people don't like chocolate) doesn't apply...

Now... I've recently come to understand that I'm acquainted with someone (no names here... wouldn't want to embarrass him) who doesn't like chocolate combined with peanut butter.

excuse me? Hello? Reese's peanut butter cups? Chocolate covered peanut butter eggs? are you serious? This acquaintance of mine goes so far as to feign nausea at the mere thought of this delectable combination.

So... rather than my jumping to the [correct] foregone conclusion that this is SO WRONG, I thought I'd throw a poll out there and see who's right. Please indicate in the poll whether you think chocolate and peanut butter are a delicious pair ... or NOT. I figure that my readers are a large (ha) and fair portion of the population, so this should give us a decisive answer.

okay? Thanks!

  1. Ooh, chocolate/peanut butter ice cream! That might be my breakfast today.

  2. I have proudly cast my vote for "Um, sorry, no". I like chocolate quite a lot, and am also quite fond of peanut butter, but the combo doesn't really do it for me. There's approximately six hundred candy types I would go to first before Reese's Peanut Butter cups.

  3. When I was a kid, my favorite candy was Resse's peanut butter cups. I'm sure it still would be to this day, but for a medical reason to avoid chocolate.

I still eat peanut butter, though, and love it.

  4. Are you kidding? Chocolate and Peanut Butter together are like Heroin or Crack...Im pretty sure most people who try this cant help but do it again. It should be it's own food group. Its a protein and carb rich food. Its awesome...I suppose this person also hates air, puppies, sex, and sleep.

  5. Chocolate goes with a great many things. IMHO, it really is right up there with pomegranates as a superfood.

  6. We've already established that I have a love affair going with the Reeses breakfast cereal, so consider that my vote!

  7. I love love love pb and chocolate. My mom loves chocolate and loves pb but she practically convulses in disgust when I'm eating Reese's b/c she doesn't like the combination. That's just plain weird.
By the way, I just found your blog and enjoy it. The picture of your German Shepherd, however, is what made you a Favorite!

  9. It's OK but I have to have nuts or something crunchy with all of my chocolate--nut too big a fan of plain.

  11. "Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm, woolen mittens . . . ." I've always knocked this song down a few notches on my grading scale because it naively fails to mention chocolate. Who needs raindrops on roses anyway? Can't we have "dark chocolate pretzels and whiskers on kittens, Snickers and Twix Bars and warm, woolen mittens . . . ."?

Love the blog , by the by.

  13. This is scary. I was just spreading peanut butter all over my english muffin this morning and my thoughts went to slathering the yummy goo all over vanilla ice cream and then pouring chocolate on top. After I slapped myself, I went back to my coffee and whole wheat bread with just a hint of PB on it. Can you imagine the calories?

  15. I'm glad there's at least one other person who loves chocolate, and loves peanut butter also; just not together.

It would be hard to be the only one. As it is we are a lonely minority.

  16. Chocolate and peanut butter are great together. But if you are down for some good stuff chocolate try Cote d'Or from Belgium. It would be a shame to mix that down with peanut butter... Kind of like $200 tequila in a margarita? But if Hershey's or something, go for it!

  17. WHOA! I absolutely cannot believe there are actually people who choose not to eat chocolate. I have a friend who does not eat chocolate... b/c she is allergic! HEllo! lol But chocolate and peanut butter is an exquisite pair. In fact, I had a surprise bday party a year ago one of my gifts was a huge bag of reeses peanut butter cups!

I was super excited. they are my fave choco candy and they drive me insane! lol

Please feel free to let me know what you think - especially if you like it. If not, please reconsider (just kidding!) I can take constructive criticism! Really I can...
